Possibly the most important item in Ole Cookie's chuck box was coffee. A hot cup of coffee could be found in the cups of cowhands at every meal of the day. Perhaps the most famous name in coffee back during the days of the great cattle drives was Arbuckle coffee. Unlike today, coffee was not available already ground. Instead it had to be run through the grinder on the trail. Usually Cookie would have been too busy to handle such a mundane task, so the job would often fall to one of the cowboys. Arbuckle came up with a unique way to help Cookie round up volunteers for the job. Buried inside each bag of coffee beans was a rare and tasty treat; a peppermint stick. Now when coffee needed to be ground you would often hear Ole Cookie holler "Who wants the candy?" The end result? Well, let's just say that cattle weren't the only thing that could stampede.
